Gangtok is the largest town of the Indian state of Sikkim. located in the eastern Himalayan range, at an height 5,410 ft. Nestled within higher peaks of the Himalaya and enjoying a year-round mild temperate climate, Gangtok is at the centre of Sikkim's tourism industry. Gangtok is beautiful town which offers the tourist all possible amenities of nature. Hotels are available in a range of prices along with a variety of eateries serving cuisine for all tastes. Sikkim is a land of dramatic contours. Rugged mountains, deep valleys and dense forests consort with raging rivers, lakes and waterfalls to create a visual feast. It is 56 km East of Gangtok and connects the Indian state of Sikkim to Tibet Autonomous Region in China.
October to June is the best timr to visit this city. Winters in Gangtok are just awesome if you are snow lovers,the weather is quite pleasant and the views of the mountains and valleys are amazingly beautiful. Gangtok attracts lots of tourist this period of year. Summer that is from march to June in Gangtok is also ideal for tourists as the weather is relatively warm and pleasant.
By Air : Bagdogra which is 124Kms from Gangtok is the nearest airport and having regular flights from major cities of India.You can also avail helicopter service available between Bagdogra and Gangtok which takes 30mins to reach Gangtok.
By Train : New Jalpaiguri which is 117 km far from Gangtok is the closest railway station. The railway station is well connected with most parts of the country. It is best way to reach Gangtok.
By Road : Gangtok is well connected by road with Siliguri, Darjeeling and Kalimpong as one can opt for National Highway 31A to reach the Gangtok.From here you can get private buses, jeeps and taxis from Siliguri and Bagdogra.
